Rubber Export Down 47 per cent in Q1
Vietnam is estimated to have notched up US$157 million from shipments of 116,000 tons of rubber in the first quarter, down 46.3 per cent on year in value and a slight decrease of 6.4 per cent in volume, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
In March, the country exported 40,000 tons worth US$55 million, up from 37,000 tons in February.
The Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) said export price of rubber has suddenly increased in the past week thanks to high demand.
Export price of Vietnamese rubber is soaring to US$1,400-US$1,500/ton, US$100-US$150/ton higher than price of early this year.
The VRA said with the increasing price profited Vietnamese exporters US$200-US$300/ton.
Vietnam now has 550,000 hectares under rubber plantation, but only 374,000 hectares are harvestable.
The country has set plan to export 700,000 tons of rubber by the year’s end. Localities nationwide have stopped scraping rubber latex from February and they will resume work early April. (GSO March Edition, vinanet)
