WB to Disburse VND4T for Vietnam Agriculture Modernization Projects
The World Bank in Vietnam will disburse VND4 trillion worth of loans for sustainable agricultural development projects in the Mekong River Delta of Vietnam.
Severin Kodderritzsch, a WB official, said that the money will be used to carry out programs for food security and global warming mitigation, especially to cope with the expected rising tidal surges in the region in the coming decades.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that with the loans, the WB wants to help the Mekong River Delta, the Vietnam’s key farming area, build projects for sustainable agricultural development in the region.
According to the ministry, Mekong delta provinces should devise agricultural development plans in the region, study to work out ways to effectively use the Mekong River water, develop irrigation projects and build sea dykes.
Besides investing in cross-breeding activities, these provinces are advised to train engineers and boost agricultural mechanization.
The WB and the ministry are working on priority projects that will be submitted to the PM for approval. (VOV, New Hanoi)
