Vietnam's construction sector was estimated to have posted its production and business value of VND32.02 trillion (US$1.89 billion) in the first four months, down 0.4 per cent on year, the Vietnam Economic Times newspaper said, citing Ministry of Construction.

In April, the production and business value stood at VND9.1 trillion.

The country’s shrinking industrial production value and dropping sales of construction materials in the face of the global downturn were mainly blamed for the reduction, said the ministry, adding that many firms had to lower outputs.

Vietnam’s industrial production value was estimated to have increased 3.3 per cent to VND209 trillion (US$12.22 billion) in the first four months this year, the government’s General Statistics Office. (Vietnam Economic Times)
