Vietnam reportedly disbursed VND34 trillion (approx US$2 billion) from its state budget for infrastructure development projects between January and April, up 8.1 per cent on year and making up30.1 per cent of the year’s target, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said on May 6.

Tapping dropping prices of construction materials triggered by the global downturn, the government has taken a series measures to restructure the economy by boosting fiscal spending for infrastructure projects, the ministry said.

However, many of the projects using state funds are much behind the set targets, the ministry pointed out.

Of that disbursed fund, the Ministry of Industry and Trade fulfilled 40.4 per cent of the target, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry 37.3 per cent, and the Training and Education Ministry 31.6 per cent.

In the first four months, Hanoi and Haiphong cities had disbursed 30.8 per cent and 39.3 per cent of the targets, the ministry said.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the government will add VND20 trillion from state coffer to raise fiscal spending to VND64 trillion to boost infrastructure projects this year as part of measures to maintain the set GDP growth. (Investment)
