South Korean Agricultural Office Opens in Vietnam
Vietnam and South Korea marked a new level of agricultural cooperation with the opening of a RoK international agriculture project office in Hanoi May 6.
The office, which will host the center for the Korean Project of International Agriculture in Southeast Asia (KoPIA), is located in the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The office opened as a result of collaboration between the Vietnamese academy and South Korean Rural Development Administration.
Representatives from the two sides also signed a co-operation MoU.
The RoK’s Government will support the office’s activities, including one project to research safe vegetables and another to develop biological materials.
The office will also offer opportunity for agricultural workers from Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand to participate in exchanges and training in Vietnam and South Korea.
The program will be implemented over three years.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nguyen Van Bo, said that the opening of KoPIA office would create more opportunities for agricultural and rural development managers in Vietnam and South Korea, and also those throughout the region, to get training and exchange experiences.
