GE Energy, one of the world's leading power generation technology and power distributors, May 12 kicked off construction of a plant to manufacture wind-to-power turbines at a total cost of US$61 million in Vietnam’s northern port city of Haiphong.

This is the first plant in Vietnam to produce components for wind generators.

Once fully operational in the first quarter of 2010, the plant is expected to provide 10,000 tons of products annually.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, a spokesperson for GE pledged to recruit around 500 local people to work at the plant.
