Vietnam’s cement consumption in May will stand high at 4.5 million tons, 17 per cent on-year and equaling April’s figure, said the Construction Materials Department under the Ministry of Construction.

In the first ten days of this month, the country’s cement sales reached 1.5 million tons, added the department.

There will be no cement shortage and price fever this year, affirmed the department, explaining that additional six cement plants with large outputs will be put in use in the second quarter of this year.

Vietnam is estimated to consume 44 million-45 million tons of cement this year while the cement sector’s total designed capacity reaches 50 million and its mobilized capacity of between 45 million-46 million tons.

The country is projected to see a cement surplus of 5 million tons in 2010, said Nguyen Quang Cung, head of the department. (News)
