Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), the biggest ship builder in Vietnam, has conducted a project to develop science and technology for building 100-DWT crude oil tankers in the country for three years.

The project is the biggest of its kind invested by Vietnam’s ship building industry, which will serve 100-DWT crude oil tankers and domestic shipyards.

Ngo Tung Lam, VINASHIN technical general director, said the group has completed 19 assigned tasks in the project with the most prominent being application of computer-aided design (CAD) to devise 100-DWT crude oil tankers under the module initiated by the Shipbuilding Science and Technology Institute of Vietnam.

VINASHIN has targeted to upgrade and improve its shipyards in order to have technology equal to the ASEAN shipbuilding industry, while the localization rate of domestically made products will rise to 60 per cent-70 per cent of the products in the 2006-2010 period. (Vietnam & World Economy)
