Work on the last part of the US$118 million Phu My suspension bridge, the first and largest of its kind in Ho Chi Minh City, was completed on May 19.

Spanning the Sai Gon River and connecting the city’s districts No. 2 and 7, the six-lane bridge is over 2,000m long.

The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on September 2, four months ahead of schedule, expected to help ease the city’s traffic congestion and cut traveling time between the city and other southern provinces.

It is part the outer beltway currently under construction around the southern hub, an important transport link between the Mekong delta and the rest of the country. (Investment, Saigon Liberation)
