Viettel Targets Revenues Up 80 per cent to VND60T in 2009
The Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel), the second largest telecom service provider in Vietnam after VNPT, expects to have revenues of VND55 trillion - VND60 trillion (US$3.2 billion - US$3.5 billion) this year, up 80 per cent on year.
The corporation also targets to become one of the 20 leading telecom enterprises in the world, with revenues of US$15 billion - US$17 billion by 2015.
Viettel announced June 1 to cut its service charges by up to 30 per cent, its largest-ever promotional campaign. The subscription fee for pre-paid calls will drop to VND50,000/month from VND59,000, and the cost per minute will drop by VND100.
Charges for pre-paid calls will also be reduced by 10 per cent to 30 per cent.
Viettel’s Telecom Strategy’s Deputy Director Nguyen Viet Dung said telecom services in Vietnam remain more expensive than those in neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
After eight years of operation, Viettel now has over 17,000 transmitters and 36 million subscribers. (VNA)
