Over Half of Foreigners Work Illegally in Vietnam So Far: Ministry
Some 75,000 foreigners are working in Vietnam and approx 30,000 of them have been issued official working visas, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (Molisa) said.
Ho Chi Minh City takes the lead with 50,000 foreign workers, and only 10,480 have get permissions to work in the country.
Hanoi had 15,357 foreigners, comprising staffs of diplomatic missions, of non-governmental aid agencies and foreign-invested projects in Vietnam.
Quang Ninh is currently home to around 4,701 foreign workers employed by 90 companies, including 38 foreign-owned companies,
Hai Phong City reported approximately 3,500, Tay Ninh (866), and Lam Dong with 900, including 597 Chinese.
The Molisa said it is still conducting inspections on foreign worker management in localities nationwide to timely detect unlicensed workers.
It has requested all municipalities and agencies to provide a list of firms that employ foreigners.
Experts said the growing number of foreign workers in Vietnam, including unskilled laborers, is putting the job stability of the local workforce at risk.
