GDP Expands 3.9 Per Cent in Jan-June

The Ministry of Planning and Investment said Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew only 3.9 per cent year on year, much lower than the last year’s achievement of 6.5 per cent.   
 
Industrial production was forecast to increase 4.8 per cent, agriculture - forestry - fishery production at 2.5 per cent in the first six months of this year. Export value reached US$27.6 billion and import spending amounted to US$29.7 billion.
 
Vietnam saw the third consecutive trade deficit in June (The trade surplus in the first three months of the year came from gold export.) Trade deficit is forecast to hit US$1 billion in June, totalling US$2.1 billion in the January-June period and accounting for 7.6 per cent of export revenues.
