ITACO Approved to Build 2 Power Plants in Mekong Delta Province
The Prime Minister has recently approved in principle to Tan Tao Investment - Industry Corporation (ITACO) to build the 1,200-MW Kien Luong 1 and the 1,200-MW Kien Luong 2 thermal power plants in Mekong Delta Kien Giang province.
ITACO is also responsible for constructing Nam Du deep-water port.
The Kien Luong 1 plant is slated for operation in 2013 or 2014 while the Kien Luong 2 plant is expected to be put in use in 2015 or 2016.
The two plants and the port are parts of Vietnam’s biggest thermal power center Kien Luong that has a capacity of 5,200 MW and costs nearly US$7 billion.
ITACO is currently speeding up site clearance and negotiations about the plants’ power prices with the state-run Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). (Investment Securities)
