Vietnam Jan-May Exports To U.S. Down 6.2 per cent at US$4.12B

Vietnam exported US$4.12 billion worth of commodities to the United States (U.S.) in the first five months of this year, an on-year decrease of 6.2 per cent, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) said.
 
In May, the country’s total exports to the U.S. reached US$923 million, up 5.1 per cent on-month but down 7.1 per cent on-year, said the ministry, adding that excluding crude oil exports, Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. increased by 6 per cent on-month and fell 0.5 per cent on-year.
 
During the five-month period, garments and textiles topped the list in export value at US$1.808 billion, down 5.5 per cent on-year.
 
It was followed by footwear of US$446.06 million, up 9.1 per cent on-year, furniture of US$373.69 million, down 7.2 per cent, seafood of US$228.64 million, up 8.5 per cent, crude oil of US$171.879 million, down 59.1 per cent, computer, electronics and spare parts of US$161.3 million, up 53.6 per cent, and coffee of US$103.55 million, down 5 per cent.
 
Vietnam is estimated to earn US$12.7 billion from exports to the U.S. this year, up 5.83 per cent from US$12 billion in 2008, the ministry forecast. (Vinanet)
