The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has so far this year punished 34 local contractors and two Japanese contractors for violating bidding regulations, Tran Quoc Viet, an official from the ministry’s Quality Control Department told a conference in Hanoi on July 20.

Among the local firms, sixteen are from Quang Ngai province, eight from Lao Cai province, two from Ha Giang province, and four each from Nam Dinh province and capital Hanoi.

The ministry banned the contractors from Quang Ngai, Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces for three years from joining the World Bank-funded projects and for one year from the ministry’s projects.

They were also fined VND20 million (US$1,183) each.

The ministry also prohibited the two Japanese contractors of Taisai Corporation and Kajima Corporation from building bridges and roads in Vietnam for one year. (Youth, News)
