Vietnam PM OKs US$718M to Upgrade Phu Bai Int’l Airport

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has okayed VND12.57 trillion (US$718 million) to upgrade the Phu Bai International Airport in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue from now to 2020 and a vision for further developments to 2030.
 
Once the upgrade is completed, the airport will be able to serve A320, A321, Boeing 767, and Boeing 777-200LR planes.
 
By 2020, the airport will likely receive 20 airplanes at peak hours and 5 million passengers annually.
 
The airport will be developed into a second-level military airport in 2030, which can accommodate 26 airplanes at peak hours and 9 million passengers each year.
 
Under the project, a cargo terminal will be also built at the airport to handle 200,000 tons of goods annually.
 
Vietnam estimates to need VND221.5 trillion to develop a network of 26 airports through 2020, Vietnam News Agency said. (Young People Jul 21 p6, Saigon Liberation)
