More Vietnam Seafood Firms Allowed to Enter Key Foreign Markets
More Vietnamese seafood producers have received permission to export their products to key markets, according to the National Agro-forestry and Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD).
The European Union announced late last week that 30 more Vietnamese exporters were allowed to ship their products to the bloc, bringing the total number of domestic exporters to receive permission to 330, NAFIQAD said.
Earlier, the department said Japan, South Korea, China and Russia also allowed more Vietnamese seafood producers to export to their countries.
Japan added four Vietnamese seafood export companies to the list of enterprises exempt from checking for banned chemical and antibiotic products in seafood export batches.
South Korea and China also granted export licenses to four Vietnamese seafood exporters, comprised of the Viet Hai Seafood Processing, Import and Export Ltd. Company (Vihaco); the Phuong Anh Seafood Processing, Import and Export Ltd. Company; the Sao Bien Seafood Joint Stock Company (Sacoimex); and the Viet Thai Production and Trading Private Enterprise.
The department said 442 Vietnamese enterprises had export licenses from South Korea, 444 from China, 30 from Russia and 448 from Japan.
In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam exported 632,000 tons of seafood, earning US$2.2 billion, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporter and Producers (VASEP).
During that period, the EU was the largest importer of Vietnamese seafood, accounting for 26% of the total export volume. The second and third largest importers were Japan with 17.5% and the U.S., with 17%. (Labor)
