Vietnam Party Chief Visits New South Wales
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, arrived in New South Wales and had talks with leaders there on September 8.
New South Wales, located in the South East of Australia, has the biggest population and highest industrialization speed in the country.
Manh had talks with New South Wales’ Premier, Nathan Rees, and Governor, Marie Bashir, expressed thanks to the state authorities for their assistance to Vietnam in fields of health care, education and industry in recent years.
The both sides agreed that New South Wales and Vietnamese provinces and cities would boost further their relations and ties in all fields in the future, particularly culture, education, trade and high-tech.
Manh also invited the Premier of New South Wales to visit Vietnam in the future.
Earlier on the same day, Manh held a separate meeting with Australian Governor General Quentin Bryce and visited the Gungahlin Homestead Institute of Agricultural Research in the capital of Canberra.
On September 7 the Vietnamese party chief met with President of the Australian Senate, John Hogg, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Harry Jenkins. (Local sources)
