PetroVietnam to Import 1.5M Tons of Crude Oil for 1st Oil Refinery 2010
The state-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) is planning to import 1.5 million tons of crude oil next year to feed the country’s first oil refinery Dung Quat.
PetroVietnam is feeding the oil refinery with crude oil pumped from Vietnam’s ageing Bach Ho (White Tiger) oilfield that has been declining in output after more than two decades of production.
The group has reached some agreements with foreign partners in Venezuela, Malaysia, Iraq, Argentina and Russia to purchase crude oil for the refinery. The first deal was signed with British oil major BP Plc in January.
Dung Quat refinery is scheduled to process 3.5 million tons of crude oil during 2009, or 70-75 barrels per day, into 2.6 million tons of petroleum products.
From 2013 the plant will annually consume 5.5 million tons of sweet crude oil and 1 million tons of sour oil. (Investment)
