Vietnam-New Zealand Trade Reaches US$450M in 2008
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and New Zealand increased to US$450 million in 2008 from US$187 million in 2001, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Vuong Hai Nam has said recently.
Vietnam mainly exported wood furniture, coffee, footwear, garments and handicrafts to New Zealand and imported milk, lamb, beef and wines during the period.
At present, Vietnam ranks 31stamong New Zealand’s trade partners while the latter stands at 33rd, said the ambassador.
In late June, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung ratified the Australia-ASEAN-New Zealand free trade agreement (AANZFTA) as part of efforts to expand trade.
Under AANZFTA, the ASEAN bloc, Australia and New Zealand pledged to remove 90% of tariffs by 2018 and agreed to set up a non-tariff measure mechanism. (Vietnamplus)
