Vietnam to Earn $1.14B from Timber, Wooden Exports by End-2009
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has predicted on its website recently Vietnam will ship $1.14 billion worth of timber and wooden products for the rest of 2009, increasing the full-year target to $2.69 billion, $100 million lower than a year earlier.
The total figure is $310 million lower than a forecast made by the Vietnam Association of Wood and Forestry (Vifores).
In the first eight months, Vietnam earned $1.7 billion from exports of timber and wooden products, down 13.91% from a year earlier.
The U.S. continued to be the largest importer of Vietnam’s wooden products, earning $560 million in the period, up 0.7% on-year.
EU was the second largest buyer of Vietnamese furniture products and it bought $238 million worth of the products from Vietnam, down 34% year-on-year.
Japan was the third biggest buyer, followed by Hong Kong, Mexico and Turkey. (Trade & Industry)
