Canon brand has been known by Vietnamese consumers since the 1980s through its authorized distributor. Over nearly 30 years, Canon has established a more significant presence in Vietnam by setting up a bubble jet production facility in Hanoi, creating around 15, 000 jobs for local people. Canon is considered a symbol of Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the last years.
Over the years, Canon always maintains its stable growth rate in photographic equipment consumption. In Vietnam Canon is strengthening its leadership position as Vietnam’s choice for digital cameras and office equipment. April 2009 saw a new effort from Canon when it officially opened the first service centre in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr Mike Asao, Chief Representative of Canon Singapore in Vietnam, “Over the years, our customer base has been expanding significantly. Besides improving products, the new service centre is an integral part in Canon’s overall development strategy in Vietnam”.
As a part of its commitment to local customers, in July 2009, Canon launched its new warranty card for camera and camcorder in Vietnam market. In August 2009, to better serve customers nationwide, Canon established its second service center in Hanoi.
Establishment of new centres is part of Canon’s strategy to make Vietnam become its key market and to satisfy customers by good quality, convenience and perfect services.
Not only contributing to the economic development cause of Vietnam, Canon aims to strive for a better future for the Vietnamese. “Canon Friendship School Chain” – beginning in 2007- is a clear proof of Canon’s responsibility to Vietnamese social activities. The project is one of Canon Vietnam’s philanthropic programs to build schools and educational infrastructure for children in mountainous areas and other economically disadvantaged regions of Vietnam. Since its launch in 2007, Canon Friendship School Chain project has provided support to eighteen schools in seven provinces. The project “Canon Friendship School Chain” of the year 2009 is expanded with the scale of building 4 schools for Yen Son (Tuyen Quang), Que Vo (Bac Ninh), Tan Son (Phu Tho), Son Dong (Bac Giang) districts. Together with “Friendship School Chain Project”, Canon also continues its mission “For The Next Generation” by improving facilities and infrastructure in poor schools nationwide. The Canon volunteer team has been to Ben Tre, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho to help build school facilities, deliver books and computers. This mission will continue to other provinces in the coming months.
In order to provide customers with high quality products at a more affordable price, Canon is working closely with governmental authorities to be allowed to sell products directly which are produced locally. “If approved by the Vietnamese government, local consumers will get big benefits from our products, prices will go down, and more users will have a chance to buy”, added Mr Mike Asao.
