Vietnam President Starts Visit to Chile
Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet flied to Chile’s capital city of Santiago early this morning, September 30, for an official visit at the invitation of the host Michelle Bachelet.
The Vietnamese President was welcomed by head of Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Board of Ceremonies Rolando Drago Rodriguez, Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam Jorge Canelas Ugalde, Ambassador Nguyen Van Tich and staffs of the Vietnamese Embassy in Chile.
President Triet’s trip to Chile aims to foster the comprehensive strategic partnership with Latin American nation, which was reached during Party Chief Nong Duc Manh’s high-ranking visit in May 2007.
Trade between Vietnam and Chile reached US$177.37 million last year and US$147.71 million in the first seven months of this year.
Chile is among the first nations having recognized Vietnam as the market economy. (VOV)
