Trade between Vietnam and Germany is forecast to equal last year’s figure of around US$4 billion in 2009, according to the German Ambassador to Vietnam.

The two-way trade stood at EUR1.578 billion (US$2.3 billion) in the first half of this year, including Vietnam’s exports of EUR1.1 billion and its imports of EUR478 million from the country, down 2.3% and 3.9%, respectively, said Rolf Schulze.

The ambassador forecast trade between the two nations will rise to US$5 billion-US$6 billion next year.

During the first half, Vietnam exported garments and textiles, footwear, coffee, seafood, wood furniture, handbags, suitcases and umbrellas, vehicles and components to Germany and imported machines and equipment and spare parts, pharmaceuticals, chemical products, pesticide and materials and chemicals.

Germany is now Vietnam's biggest trade partner from the EU. (Investment)
