Three years ago, introduced by friends, Ms Thuy registered to become a member of a multi-level selling company. From the first day, she participated in a meeting to introduce the origin of Noni product which immediately attracted her attention. After that, she did not hesitate to spend a considerable amount of money which was equivalent to 2.5 taels of gold at that time to buy four bottles of Noni.
Later, once coming to Co.opmart supermarket, she accidentally saw a Noni bottle made in Vietnam priced at less than one tenth of the imported Noni bottle. Sharing with reporters, Thuy said “I am very surprised that Vietnam can produce Noni product from Morinda Citrofolia Lin, which is often called Noni. Therefore, there are many good products around us, but we don’t know about them. Without a proper advertising campaign, we cannot bring these products to customers”
To know about the made-in-Vietnam Noni product, a reporter of Vietnam Business Forum came to meet Le Ngoc Lieu, Director of Huong Thanh Company which pioneers in producing and processing this product from Morinda Citrofolia Lin in the country.
The firm’s showrooms were displayed with many products made from Morinda Citrofolia Lin fruits like Noni tea, Noni soap and honey and powder.
Lieu talked about the process to make Noni product. After her husband suffered from live disease, her family sought to treat the disease for him, but the situation was not improved. At that time, a relative of her family recommended her to use Noni juice for the treatment. Thanks to the remedy, her husband’s health recovered a short time after that. “To express my gratefulness to nature, I decided to attach my life to Noni fruit and Huong Thanh Company was set up”.
At the beginning, many people did not know about the effects of Noni fruit; therefore, the company faced difficulties in domestic sales. However, the company tried to pursue the goal of product development and diversification. After three years, Huong Thanh Company’s products became well known to Japanese customers and are starting to gain a foothold in the world market.
Taking about the tropical product, Lieu said, “Nature gives Vietnamese people tropical products. In reality, we enjoy a pile of medicine materials, but do not know how to take advantage of them”.
According to some researches about Noni, its fruit was sold as a kind of food in markets in the Mekong Delta region, particularly in An Giang province. The fruit was grown in several localities in the south and southern central regions. Noni has become a kind of nutritious food for disease treatment. Noni fruit combined with salt is an effective remedy for cough. Noni roots are good for treating joint and bone diseases. Its juice helps to enhance immune system, prevent ageing and is a functional food for people’s health as it contains various substances, including Fe and Calcium as well as Vitamins.
Huong Thanh Company also holds special tours with Noni products and dishes using Noni materials and particularly Noni ice cream, aiming to bring more Noni products to Vietnamese households, restaurants and hotels, the Director added.
