VinaPhone Rolls out First 3G Service in Vietnam
VinaPhone, a unit of Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has rolled out its third-generation (3G) services on October 12, and become the first mobile operator to provide the services in Vietnam.
The operator now covers its 3G network in 13 cities and provinces nationwide and expects to sign up three million 3G subscribers in 2009. The services will reach out the whole country next year.
Six 3G services are now available for VinaPhone subscribers, comprising Mobile Internet, Mobile Broadband, Video Call, Mobile Camera, Mobile TV and 3G Portal.
With the launch of 3G services and current 21 million active users, VinaPhone takes lead among Vietnamese mobile phone operators in terms of network quality and value-added services.
Viettel, MobiFone and EVN Telecom-Hanoi Telecom are also testing their networks and will offer new services in April, 2010. (Trade & Industry, Ictnews)
