APL to Launch New Service to Vietnam
Singapore-based container shipping APL plans to start a new service linking Japan, Thailand and Vietnam by late this month, as part of its strategy to expand its operations in Asia.
APL expects cargo volume on the route will grow sharply as manufacturers of apparel and footwear, home furnishings and furniture move more production to Vietnam which boasts low-cost labor force.
APL will use three ships with a capacity of 1,200 foot containers each.
The port rotation for the service will be Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung and back to Tokyo.
APL now operates two shipping services from Vietnam. One runs from Vietnam, Taiwan to Singapore and the other connects Vietnam with the west coast of North America.
AP, under Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), is the first Singapore-based transportation and logistics firm which established its wholly-owned operations in Vietnam in 2007. (Vnbusiness)
