VNPT Signs Deals worth US$1.5B with French Firms
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) signed three deals valued at US$500 million and memorandums of understanding worth US$1 billion with French banks and companies.
The agreements were reached November 13 at Vietnam-France Business Forum on the occasion of French Prime Minister Francois Fillon’s visit to Vietnam from Nov 12-14.
BNP Paribas and Natixis will jointly lend $300 million to fund the VNPT’s key projects in developing telecom networks in the next five years, VNPT said.
Another deal was inked with France Telecom and Calyon Bank. However, the value was not disclosed.
VNPT, which is running two largest mobile phone network operators in Vietnam, MobiFone and VinaPhone, clinched a contract worth $26.7 million to expand coverage of VinaPhone mobile network in Vietnam’s 16 northern provinces in 2009, the group said.
During the business forum, Vietnamese and French enterprises reached 18 agreements and contracts with a combined value of $9.5 billion. (VNPT)
