The Japanese government has pledged JPY4.7 billion ($52 million) in ODA for Vietnam’s energy saving and renewable energy development projects on in line with the Japanese fiscal year to end on March 31, 2010.

The funding is part of the JPY119.791 billion (about $1.3 billion) aid package, which was signed Tuesday in Tokyo by the two sides.

Energy use in Vietnam is inefficient as the country consumes up to 600 kilograms of oil equivalent in order to turn out $1,000 worth of GDP, which is 1.5 folds higher than that in Thailand and doubles against the world average energy consumption. (VNA)
