Vietnam Likely to Join Hands with Japan for Nuclear Power Plant: Hatoyama
Vietnam is considering joining hands with Japan to build a nuclear power plant in the country, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said on April 1, citing a reply letter from his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung.
The Southeast Asian country plans to build eight nuclear reaction piles with a combined capacity of 8,000 MW in the central province of Ninh Thuan. It is mulling to cooperate with Japan to build two reactors.
On March 3, Hatoyama sent a letter Nguyen Tan Dung to lobby for its investors to take part in a nuclear power project in Vietnam right after the Southeast Asian country chose Russian Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation to build the two first reactors.
The construction is slated for groundbreaking in 2014 with an expected completion in 2020.
