The jury of the Vietnam Innovation Day 2010 (VID) programme, themed Climate Change, has presented awards worth VND8 billion to 30 community-driven projects. Each winning project received up to VND270 million for piloting its innovations and sharing efforts in responding to climate change across Vietnam, from mountain to delta and from city to remote rural area. All the projects were highly appreciated for the innovation and commitment of project owners.

The contest, funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh Central Youth Union and the World Bank (WB) and launched in January 2010, received 262 projects, in which 61 qualified for the finalist round. This year’s programme witnessed many records: largest number of candidates, the largest number of finalists, the largest number of examiners and the largest sponsorship value.

The programme was supported by the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, the UK Department for International Development, the New Zealand International Aid & Development Agency, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam and the World Bank.

Since its debut in 2003, VID is drawing an increasing number of candidates, with more than 2,000 projects to date. Over 200 projects have won more than US$2 million.
