Tran Van Dinh set up a transportation cooperative in 2001 with an initial fleet of eight ships with individual loading capacity of 800-1,000 tonnes. In 2004, he founded Truong An Commercial Transportation Co., Ltd with a chartered capital of VND23.5 billion. Four years later, the registered capital has climbed to over VND200 billion and Truong An has become a leading business in Truc Ninh district and Nam Dinh province as a whole.
Multi-sector business model
The main business scopes of the company are shipbuilding and waterway transportation. In addition, Truong An takes part in many other business areas like importing steel and corrugated steel, exporting iron ore slag, building roads, manufacturing purified drinking water, etc.
Impressively, Truong An is very successful in all business scopes. For instance, while the shipbuilding industry of Vietnam in general and Nam Dinh province in particular is wrecked by the global financial turmoil, no workers have been laid off in Truong An. After three years, the company’s shipyard built 11 ships of 3,000 tonnes and upgraded two ships with loading capacity of 1,000 tonnes to 1,500 tonnes. The shipbuilder is preparing to kick off two new 2,500-tonne vessels. In early months of 2010, Truong An handed over five ships of 3,000 tonnes to its customers and planned to transferred an additional six vessels from now till the end of the year. The performance inspired the company to invest in the second shipyard with a capacity of 4-6 ships of 7,000-12,500 tonnes a year. The outstanding result is attributed to safe and sound cooperation of the company. Possibly, the biggest success is the joint venture with PVOIL Shipping to build oil tankers. Currently, the company has successfully converted four oil tankers with a loading capacity of 3,200 tonnes each.
The company made a resounding success in shipping business, with annual shipping capacity of 200,000 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes a year, ensuring good jobs and incomes for more than 100 officials and sailors. In 2009, it set up a forwarding branch in Hai Phong City. It is also very successful in exporting, traffic infrastructure investment, purified water production. This is a good groundwork for the transformation of Truong An into an economic group.
Director Tran Van Dinh said Truong An always put the prestige and quality on top to win the absolute trust of customers.
