The University of Economics, Technology and Industry (UETI) used to be College of Economics, Technology and Industry I which was established in 1956. On 11 September 2007, the Prime Minister approved for the college to be upgraded to UETI, and UETI was identified as a key university of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
With enthusiastic contribution, UETI has been awarded with lots of noble prizes, including Independence Medal of Third Ranking (1996), Second Ranking (2001), and of First Ranking (2005); Labour Meadl of Third Ranking (1960, 1962), of Second Ranking (1981), and of First Ranking (1985, 1992), etc.
Expand scale, improve quality at the same time
With 15 training majors in different areas and levels, UETI is responsible for providing training to students of all levels from technical workers, high school students, college students and university ones. In recent years, UETI has enrolled between 8,000 and 9,000 students and provided short-term training courses to some 5,000 students per annum. Currently, UETI is home to over 23,000 students and pupils. Many students have become experts and skilled workers, keeping many important positions at enterprises and organisations after graduation. Mr. Vu The Dan, a former student of College of Economics, Technology and Industry, who is now working at Nam Dinh textile company, shares that years spent at the college not only equips him with knowledge and necessary skills but also many valuable lessons for future job.
UETI has 550 lecturers, 45 percentage of whom are masters and doctors. Many lecturers are awarded with noble titles, such as People’s Teacher (01 lecturer), Eminent Teacher (09 lecturers), medals for the career of education and training (125 lecturers), and medals for the development of Vietnam’s industry (172 lecturers), etc.
During its education and training, UETI has always focused on providing opportunities for students to practise and improve their workmanship, meet requirements of jobs, which is highly appreciated by enterprises. Mr. Doan Tien Dzung, Director of Nam Ha Garment Joint Stock Company, states that lots of employees working at the enterprise are former students of UETI and they feel secure with those employees since they are not only skilled but also devoted to work.
Increase potential
With achievements gained during the past many years, UETI has affirmed its leading position in the task of educating and training of personnel for the commerce and industry area.
Identifying human factor as the key one for the successful implementation of the above target, UETI has recently paid great attention to increasing the number of lecturers with good teaching skills. In 2008 – 2009 only, UETI sends dozens of its officials and lecturers abroad for training courses.
With the motto of cooperation for development, UETI co-operates with Japan, Korea, Thailand, Australia and China, etc. to implement projects of education and training.
UETI has been mobilizing resources to improve its physical conditions. It currently has two bases, one in Nam Dinh and the other, in Hanoi. The university is implementing the project to construct teaching places and invest in equipment until 2015, with total capital investment amounting to VND555 billion.
Dr. Pham Ngoc Anh, principal of UETI, says that today’s achievements are attributed to efforts made by lecturers and students as well as the interest and investment of all levels of authorities and Nam Dinh’s. On its growth path, UETI wishes to receive further instructions from upper authorities for its ever more success.
