Vietnam, Uzbekistan Boost Oil & Gas Cooperation

The state-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam)’s Deputy General Director Nguyen Quoc Thap July 27 received Uzbekistan Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade N.Nazumov to boost oil and gas cooperation between the two nations in the next years.
 
Thap and Nazumov discussed plans to start conducting seismic surveys for oil and gas at block Kossor in Ustyurt plateau, and in Bukhara-Khiva region in Uzbekistan, PetroVietnam said on its website.
 
On January 29, PetroVietnam signed a US$30-million contract with Uzbekistan’s state oil company Uzbekneftegaz to drill three oil wells and conduct 2D seismic surveys over the next five years to explore oil and gas on a 5,500-square-kilometer area at Kossor block.
 
The two firms also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate in exploring oil and gas in Bukhara-Khiva region on April 5.
 
The central Asian country has to date discovered 171 oilfields with a total reserve of 594 million barrels. (PVN)
