The state-run Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) earned gross revenues of VND172.9 trillion (US$9.054 billion) in the 2006-2010 period.

The group’s tax payments totaled VND9.1 trillion while its annual power sales grew 13.7% during the period, doubling versus the national GDP expansion.

The country’s sole power distributor put into operation new power sources with a combined capacity of 10,400 MW between 2006 and 2010. The threshold for the 2006-2015 period would be 29 projects with a combined capacity of 11,800 MW.

During the five-year period, the group built 23,700km of high-voltage power lines with capacity of between 110kV and 500kV, 277,500km of average and low-voltage lines, and transformer stations with a combined capacity of nearly 90,000 MW.

Between 2008 and 2009, EVN sold three million energy-saving compact bulbs, which helped save 1.945 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to nearly VND1 trillion.

This year, the group estimates its total power output at over 97 billion kWh, its power sales at 85.4 billion kWh and its clients at 16.4 million.

EVN forecasts its equity will rise to VND110 trillion this year from VND73.42 trillion in 2009 and VND49.15 trillion in 2006.

The firm targets to lower its power loss rate to 8.7% this year from 9.21% in 2008, regardless of taking over rural power grids. (Trade & Industry)
