Greater Mekong Sub-region Ministers to Convene in Hanoi
Ministers from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam and officials of the Asia Development Bank (ADB) will gather in Hanoi Aug 20 to outline a cooperative strategy framework of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) in the next decade.
The 16th GMS ministerial meeting is expected to map out an action plan on improvement of transport network and commercial favors in the region in order for its post-crisis economic recovery, according to Kunio Senga, ADB chief for Southeast Asia.
The six GMS countries have entered into an ADB-funded program for the comprehensive cooperation in transport, energy, telecoms, manpower, management of natural sources and environmental protection since 1992.
Last year, ADB has pledged to provide US$104 million to develop the GMS economic corridors. (People’s Police)
