Can Tho City currently has 165 hotels with 3,950 rooms in total, including three four-star accommodations. According to real estate investors, the city still has a wide room for vacation property investment especially since Can Tho Bridge was officially inaugurated in late April.
According to experts, in addition to currently hot vacation property sites like Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Quang Ninh, Binh Thuan and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Can Tho City, with its the advantage of the natural beauty, has emerged as a new potential market.
It is endowed with a beautiful islet system consisting of Au, Cai Khe, Khuong, Son and Tan Loc on the Hau River. Can Tho is also noted for many natural landscapes like Ninh Kieu wharf, Cai Rang floating market, Bang Lang stork sanctuary, and countryside tourist sites like My Khanh and Thuy Tien. Can Tho has 14 rated cultural and historical relics, including nine nation-level relics like Phan Van Tri Tomb, Ong Pagoda, Binh Thuy Ancient Village and Can Tho Ancient Market. The local annual GDP growth is high. Urbanization speed enjoys an average of about 10 percent a year, compared with the regional average rate of 4.35 percent.
Additionally, since the Can Tho International Airport went into operation, the number of tourists in the city has increased steadily. Specially, when the “Via ba Chua xu” Festival opens in Chau Doc, visitors from central and northern provinces soar. Many holiday-makers choose Can Tho for their Mekong Delta tours. Room occupancy rates usually exceed 80 percent. These are favourable conditions for vacation property investors.
However, Can Tho’s advantages of vacation property have not been fully tapped. According to experts, it is the time to awaken the beauty of the local tourist sites. Can Tho needs to create its own typical tourist products, increase the desire for continuous discovery in the region.
Mr Le Ke Hoa, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Planning and Investment, said Can Tho now has 165 hotels (without 5-star hotel), and 21 tourist and recreation sites. Under the development plan, from now to 2020, the city will call investment capital for 18 tourism projects.
Hoa said Can Tho needs more hotels as the demand remains very high, especially it is the most developed locality in the region. From 2010 to 2020, Can Tho will call up investment capital for vacation property projects, mainly eco-tourism zone or complex projects. Furthermore, Can Tho is a centrally governed city which will offer more opportunities for domestic and foreign real estate investors.
At present, several vacation property projects have been licensed in Can Tho, including the 8.8-hectare Cai Khe Island resort in Ninh Kieu district, the 5-star Thanh Tra Hotel, the 5-star Xuan Quang Plaza, a 18-storey office building, Nguyen Kim high-rise building complex.
