Australia Funds Projects in Central Highlands
The Australian Government, through the Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City, has funded approximately VND300 million (around AUD15,000) for two small-scale development projects in Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces.
A primary school in the Dak Bla Commune in Kon Tum province, received approximately VND200 million to build a new classroom and toilet. Gia Lai Social Welfare Centre received funding of VND100 million to provide stainless steel beds and cabinets to enhance the health care of poor people in the area.
Australian Consul-General, Mr Graeme Swift said the Australian Government provides funding for more than 20 projects in Vietnam’s southern provinces through Direct Aid Project (DAP) in the 2010-2011 financial year.
DAP is a small, flexible grants program for development activities which aims to alleviate situations of humanitarian hardship and assist low income communities.
