Mastering the operation and maintenance in 2011, increasing capacity from 6 million tonnes to 9.5-10 million tonnes, training human resources for future refinery projects and improving living conditions of the workers and staff are major goals that Binh Son Oil Refinery One Member Limited Company (BSR) focuses on in the coming years.
Driving force of Quang Ngai socio-economic development
Dung Quat Oil Refinery is a key national project with investment capital of some US$3 billion, and production capacity of 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil a year. Products of the refinery include gasoline Mogas A92/A95, car Diesel, LPG, Propylene, kerosene, Jet A1 fuel, FO and Polypropylene, meeting the national and international standards.
After 4 years of construction, the refinery had its first product in February 2009, and starting successful commercial production of 100 percent of capacity. From the test operation to the June 24, 2011, the refinery has received around 11.3 million tonnes of cruder oil, processed and supplied the market nearly 10 million tonnes of products of high quality. Seven kinds of products of the refinery have been awarded Gold Medals at International Trade Fairs (Vietnam Expo – 2010 and Vietnam Expo – 2010.) Jet A1 (fuel for aircraft) was granted international quality certificate and officially marketed. Local distributors get more profit than importing as in local currency they can save from exchange rates. In 2011, the refinery expects a turnover of over VND80,000 billion and budget revenue of over VND15,000 billion.
The successful construction and operation of Dung Quat refinery is most important for the energy security, contributing to the process of industrialization-modernization of Vietnam. BSR company is playing the leading role and setting the foundation for oil refinery industry in Vietnam.
Referring to the success of the refinery, Mr Nguyen Hoai Giang, Director General, said that the refinery laid the cornerstone for the long term and sustainable development of Central Vietnam in general and Quang Ngai in particular. As a province, 15 years ago, Quang Ngai could contribute to GDP only VND100 billion, in 2010 it increased to VND17,000 billion including over VND16,000 billion from Dung Quat refinery.
The refinery also brings prosperity to Dung Quat Economic Zone. In fact, it is a magnet attracting investments and developments in Quang Ngai with some US$10 billion. The new projects were developed with the expansion of infrastructure turning fallow land into industrial zones South Korean steel complex and others, Mr. Giang added.
BSR operates Dung Quat refinery with modern technology increasingly upgraded and copyright of world leading designers and manufacturers. Modern technology is the foundation and driving force for BSR to develop and integrate with oil refinery industry of the region and the world.
Training high quality workforce
BSR has a high quality workforce with experienced managers and skilled workers recruited and trained at famous institutes and centres in Vietnam and big plants of the world. They are rich in experiences and committed to profession. It is the precondition for BSR to train the workforce and hire technicians and managers for oil refinery industry, scientific research and technological application in Vietnam oil industry.
Mr Giang confided that as success is made by human being, it must in turn serve the interests of human being. By so doing, even the most difficult job can be done and human energy is most powerful.
Fully aware of those facts, BSR have taken good care of the living conditions of the workers, providing kindergarten and periodical health check twice a year. The management board have always listened to the workers and assisted them in time.
BSR continues to develop business culture with honesty: increasing workers’ capacity, and improving managers’ skill and honesty. Honesty has become foundation for the development of the company. Business culture will in turn generate the devotion, talent and social responsibility.
Concerning future development of the company, Mr Giang disclosed that in 2011 the company will complete the research on maintenance of the plant from July to September, as well as all projects under the management of the company. Bio-fuel project worth US$100 million will start producing by the end of the year and with production capacity of 100,000 tonnes by early next year. The plant will be expanded. By the end of 2012, the plant will be completed with maintenance period.
In 2020, the company will upgrade and build petro-chemistry projects. It will increase the production capacity to 9.5-10 million tonnes a year, up by 30 percent. The plant will be upgraded and expanded in 2010-2017, increasing diversified products, refining different kinds of crude oil of the world and improving the efficiency of the plant.
