To Hieu Agriculture Company: Innovation for Development

After more than 50 years of construction and development, To Hieu Agriculture Company has become one of the most prestigious agricultural companies in Son La province. One of vital elements for the success of the company is accrued from the proper care and guidance to the Party Committee, the acumen and governance of the Executive Board, and devotion of all the staff.
Remarkable achievements
Living through ups and downs of the agricultural sector of Son La province in particular and the whole country in general in the past 50 years, To Hieu Agriculture Company has attained lots of impressive and prideful achievements. The company was assigned to manage 2,800 ha of natural land, including 1,754.7 ha of arable land. It has signed contracts with over 1,800 farmers to work on that land, thus creating good jobs for 10,000 local inhabitants. Regarding forestland, the company actively coordinates with local organs to protect and develop existing forests.
 
In the past years, To Hieu Agriculture Company has effectively grown sugarcanes for Son La Sugar Joint Stock Company. In the 2010 - 2011 crop, the company plants 400 ha of sugarcanes to harvest 29,508 tonnes. In the 2011 - 2012 crop, it will expand the sugarcane area to 792 ha to garner 55,500 tonnes.
 
Additionally, in the past five years, high-yield maize generates large output and high incomes. Average income per ha reaches VND55-60 million. The company harvests 1,390 tonnes of hybrid maize. Commercial maize and bean area is stable. Incomes of short-day crops are VND45-50 million per ha. The company also grows tea, picks 1,124 tonnes of tea leaves and produce 251,617 kilos of dried tea for domestic consumption and export.
 
Expanding business
However, the company needs to innovate to adapt to current mixed blessing. In 2011, all managers and workers united to transform the company into a one-member limited liability company - a new name for State-owned business entity.
 
The company is strengthening up its workforce to scale up production and business operations. It also encourages its staff and farmers to put forth and apply innovation and improvement to production to boost up productivity and quality while lowering cost prices. Besides, it adds young figures to the management to prepare better next leadership.
 
Mr Trinh Van Thinh, Director of To Hieu Agriculture Company, said: “Our first and foremost objective is to successfully convert the operating model of the company. We will stabilise production and business activities and sustain development. We must ensure the highest productivity of chosen crops and improve living standards of employees and local people. We will expand business scopes like agricultural service, mechanisation, construction and commerce. We will make bigger profit and preserve capital for production and business expansion.”
