Prudential Vietnam: Actively Involved in Local Community

With over ten years of operation in Vietnam, Prudential (UK) has been playing an important role in mobilising idle funds from people to invest in the national economy as well as transferring expertise and creating high quality human resources. Besides business activities, Prudential Vietnam has been keen on participating in social activities. These activities have been recognised by the Government and Vietnamese people.
 
Prudence Foundation
Prudence Foundation was set up in 2003 and committed to the long term growth of Vietnam by supporting a dedicated focus on learning, technology and sport for the future benefit of the nation. The scopes of the foundation include (i) providing business English language courses for government officials in 25 major provinces with over 4,000 officials trained by native teachers of Apollo; (ii) programmes to help develop Vietnam’s talented youth at sport (promoting junior tennis environment, supporting the intensive performance training overseas and international tournaments for junior potential team, and sponsoring full-time professional international training for talented tennis players); (iii) programmes to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s software industry through IT education.

Prudential has successfully launched some major corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, including:
 
Financial literacy programme “Investing in your future”
Launched in 2005, the program aims to educate women consumers on how to plan for their financial needs at different life stages, focusing on younger, lower income women. As of 2010, the program had been organized in 33 provinces for more than 7,700 participants.
 
“Good essay - Good handwriting” & “Vo Truong Toan” contest
These programmes were started in 2000 and have become a meaningful social activity and an exclusive contest focusing on developing pupils’ dignity and soul by writing essays and practicing letters. This contest is organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper in cooperation with HCMC Department of Education and Training, and Departments of Education and Training in 13 Mekong Delta provinces. The contest has become an annual education event attracting the attention of over 400,000 junior high school students, even those from international and private schools, together with hundreds of thousands of teachers and parents, and has received great acclaim from Education Departments in HCM City and Mekong Delta.
 
Tran Van On prize
Launched in 2007, this is an exclusive award offered to exceptional vocational students from hundreds of colleges across Vietnam. Over 7 years, the Tran Van On Prize was awarded to more than 1,000 outstanding students whose excellent study profiles were examined by a commendatory board appointed by Ho Chi Minh Central Youth Union, Ministry of Education & Training. This award is exclusively for college students nationwide and would be referred as a proven record for their job application upon graduation.
 
Chevening scholarship
Launched in 1997, the Chevening Scholarship Programme, funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, provides prestigious awards which enable overseas students to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarship is fully funded and supports students in studying post-graduate courses of up to one year at British Universities. They are targeted at talented young Vietnamese with potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers upon returning to Vietnam.    
Together with other British companies doing business in Vietnam, Prudential Vietnam has been a key sponsor of the Chevening Scholarship Programme since 1998. The aim is to support the British Government’s educational initiative and to promote bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two governments and peoples.
 
As of 2010, Prudential has offered scholarships to 23 officials from key ministries and government authorities in Vietnam.
 
Pru Volunteer Day
Prudential Vietnam Assurance Private Ltd set this program as an annual charitable activity taking place at the anniversary of the company. A series of meaningful charitable activities toward the community are carried out across Vietnam, like blood drives, taking care poor children or old people, distributing medical check-ups and medicine to disadvantaged people, planning and cleaning green schools or protection centres; and cleaning rubbish from beaches or parks. Thousands of employees, agents and Pru managers actively participate in the events.
