Hoang Bach Joint Stock Group (Hoang Bach Group) is a reputable and successful company in mineral exploration, mining and processing. To implement Ha Giang Province’s policy calling for investment, the company has opened the investment project mining and processing Na Son zinc and lead (in Tung Ba Commune - Vi Xuyen District). After four years of the project, with methodical investments, the company has brought an important contribution to the flourishing development of mining industry of Ha Giang province.
Efforts to overcome difficulties
On 8 January 2007, the project constructing Na Son Lead - Zinc exploiting and processing factory was granted the investment certificate with scale of 99 tonnes crude ore per year by the Provincial People's Committee. Immediately, Hoang Bach Group has focused on building the factory, conducted the first drilling into the mountains, and opened mining pit. With total investment of nearly VND100 billion, a screening capacity of 1,000 tonnes crude ore per day, the company manufactures a product volume of 100 to 150 tonnes of lead and zinc ore per day. Na Son Lead - Zinc Factory is considered the lead-zinc screening factory with screening capacity ranked first or second in the northern mountainous region.
Talking to us, Mr Nguyen Tien Dung, General Director of the company, said: In 4 years since the first drillings, we cannot count the difficulties and struggles which each staff, engineer and worker has faced. Because the terrain of the mining site lies halfway up the mountain, the deployment requires reasonable measures to avoid risks. There are frequent flash floods and the power supply is unstable because there are not separate power lines for the Tung Ba industrial cluster. There were certain years when the roads were ruined and the power supply was cut, the company must stop its manufacturing from three to four months.
To ensure efficient exploitation and mineral resource saving, the company has selected mining technology that goes straight into the ore body, and chases the ore body which will create a mining area. When exploiting, to ensure the content and stable input for the factory, and to improve the recovery rate, there must be plans to mix between rich and poor ores. The company has selected appropriate technology, synchronous lines, the high recovery rate and investment cost saving. The company has invested in building houses and offices with an area of 3,200 sq.m valued at VND4 billion. Also, a screening workshop valued at VND37 billion was built and equipped with modern machinery and equipment for production, and to ensure safety of lives, property, machinery and equipment in order to provide and serve timely production activities. The company has also invested VND20 billion to solidify the dam and road system.
The difficulties were gradually removed to give way for joy when the first tonnes of ore were taken to the factory. After four years in operation, Hoang Bach Group has overcome many difficulties to increase production and business activities, with results this year higher than in previous years, and gradually improved the lives of officials and workers. Over four years in operation, the project has brought specific effects: The total turnover reaches over VND150 billion; the state budget contribution is of VND40 billion; jobs are available for nearly 300 local employees; and support contribution to the local construction is nearly VND five billion.
The initial success has created confidence so the company continues to improve competitiveness and to ensure sustainable growth. In the coming period, the company will continue investing in exploration to create a stable exploitation outcome, be active in investment in the power supply, and provide stable raw materials for production. The company will be active in seeking input raw material sources for the construction of smelter factory. Along with this, the company has proposed to the Provincial People’s Committee, and worked with Ha Giang power sector, to invest in a priority power line for Ba Tung industrial cluster in order to stabilize power supply for production.
Building a new life
Not only focusing on investment and production development, since being constructed in Tung Ba commune (Vi Xuyen), Hoang Bach Group also has actively participated in social activities in the local area, contributed to the transition of a countryside with continued difficulties. The meaningful activities are considered a strong bond between the business and all levels of governmental agencies and local people here.

Once startingbuildingthe factory, the company gave prioritytoemploy localworkers. Ina short time, dozens ofyoung people who had only grown rice and maizebecame industrial workersat their home land. Thus, of thetotal nearly300officials andworkersat the factory, most of them arefrom TungBa commune andneighbouring communes. Notonlycreatingjobsforlocal people, with the advantageof manpower and equipment, the company is also actively involved insocialactivities and community service inTungBacommune area. InTungBa, therehas appearedfamily model that the healthy childrenatworking agego to work in the company, their parentsincrease production, grow vegetables, raise chickens and pigsto sell to the factory.
