Thanks to low-cost labour and the Vietnamese Government’s foreign investment attraction policies, Vietnam has been emerging as an ideal investment destination for Japanese businesses. According to Mr Yoshihiro Nakayama, General Director of Brother International (Vietnam), Vietnam has achieved good results in environment improvement, especially in infrastructure. A lot of well-known Japanese producers have chosen Vietnam to build their manufacturing factories. Brother International is among the first Japanese businesses to operate in Vietnam.
June 1st, 2009 marked an important milestone for Brother International, a leader in home and business IT peripherals, when it officially opened a fully owned sales company in Vietnam, namely Brother International Vietnam replacing its previous representative office. This move identifies Vietnam as a potential market for the group. “The new sales company allows us to increase our sales and boost Brother branded products in Vietnam,” says Mr Nakayama. Before, in 2007, Brother Group established a wholly owned manufacturing facility at Phuc Dien Industrial Zone, Hai Duong, Vietnam called Brother Industries Vietnam.
After 2 years of operation in Vietnam, Brother International Vietnam has achieved a nearly 10 percent market share of laser printer and top share of multi-function printers segment in the market, higher than its expectation. “It is lucky that we came early. We are one of the first comers to Vietnam as 100 percent owned sales company. And in the last 2 years, we have continuously broadened our presence,” adds Mr Nakayama.
Today, Brother Group has several factories in Asia including China, Malaysia and Vietnam.
In Vietnam, Brother International offers a wide range of products from machines for home and small offices to office solutions for large organizations. These are printers, multi-function printers, fax machines, sewing machines, etc.
Vietnam has rapid development in consumption of laser printers. It is estimated that in the next few years, Vietnam will be one of the largest laser printer markets in Asia. Addressing the business trip to Vietnam, Vice President of Brother Group (Japan) Mr Yuji Furukawa said the group is looking for opportunities to expand its presence in Vietnam.
Recently, Brother International launched a new mono laser MFCs. This is a powerful mono laser multifunction printer which is world renowned for combining separate office and IT peripherals, like printer, copier, scanner and fax, into a single, multifunction unit that not only saves space and reduces costs, but also brings additional productivity with built-in tools, like duplexing (double-sided printing), A3 printing, wireless connectivity and security. Another outstanding product is its World’s First Compact A3 colour inkjet MFC which has up to A3 capabilities.
With the young, fast-growing population in Vietnam, the demand for IT peripherals like printer, copier or imaging devices is expected to increase in the coming time. This will be a big opportunity for Brother International to increase its presence and boost its strength in Vietnam. “With such a fast growing economy like Vietnam, we believe in a bright future and that Vietnam will contribute significantly to Brother Group’s business growth in the future,” shared Mr Yoshihiro Nakayama.
