VMC Introduces New Mazda3
Vietnam Motors Corporation (VMC), the manufacturer and distributor of Mazda automobiles in Vietnam, on August 10 introduced Mazda3, a new class of sedan. This is the fourth model of the new-generation products of Mazda and gathers all the best features of the awarded Mazda sedans, such as Mazda6, Mazda2 and Mazda RX-8.
After the successful launching of Mazda6 and Premacy on the Vietnamese market, Mazda3, with its 1.6 litre engine, was sold at all VMC centres and agents nationwide from August 12, 2004 at the price of US$29,800 for the model with manual gear shift and US$30,800 the automatic. According to Tran Quang Thanh, General Director of VMC, around 60-100 units are expected to be sold each month following its introduction.
The new Mazda3 combines all the best qualities of its predecessors, with added insights gained by Mazda’s designers and engineers through the evolution of the new-generation Mazdas. Mazda3 introduces a fresh, confident vision to a segment that has left the customers of other brands wanting more. Furthermore, impacts to the environment are minimised thanks to the car’s low fuel consumption.
Together with the second prize at the contest for famous cars in Europe in 2004, Mazda3 has been selected as the most economical car in the US, voted by readers of the Autoweek magazine, the Car of Canada, the Car of Denmark, the Car of Turkey, the Car of the Czech Republic, and the Car of Croatia in 2004.
VMC was set up in 1991 under the joint venture between the Columbian Motors Group of the Philippines (CMC), Japan’s Sojitz Group and the Vietnam Automobile Industry Corporation with total investment of US$58 million. VMC has produced and distributed BMWs, Mazdas and Kias on the Vietnamese market. In 2001, the corporation was one of the automobile joint ventures with the highest number of vehicles sold on the market.
