Conferences on Hydropower Plants’ Impacts on Mekong River
The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (VUSTA) recently cooperated with both local and foreign concerned agencies to hold a serious of programmes and conferences on “Assessing impacts of hydropower plants planned to be built on Mekong River”.
According to Phan Anh Son, Head of VUSTA’s International Cooperation Board, currently, VUSTA agencies are collecting opinions on impacts of hydropower plants planned to be built on the mainstream of the Mekong River. The agencies will organise a conference on Xayaburi hydropower plant’s impacts on the river on November 23 in Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting will attract the participation of many experts from different areas related to hydropower plant and energy. On November 25, VUSTA will work with the South West Steering Committee to hold a seminar for leaders from 13 Mekong cities and provinces on the same issue.
After the two conferences, VUSTA will coordinate with Lao or Cambodian scientists to open an international seminar in one of these countries on the hydropower plant’s influences.
