Fisheries Sector Eyes US$6.5 Bln Export Revenue in 2012
The General Department of Fisheries has set a target to pocket US$6.5 billion from exporting seafood products in 2012, 5% higher than from this year.
The fisheries sector revealed the target at a conference on its 2012 tasks, in Ha Noi on December 21.
The sector also aims to ship 5.37 million tons of seafood next year.
The General Department announced that the sector will take measures to ensure compliance to the Vietnam Good Agricultural Practice (VietGap) in order to meet requirements on food hygiene and safety, traceability, breeding environment and biodiversity protection.
Beside the traditional markets including the US, Japan and the EU, the sector will try to penetrate into potential markets like the Republic of Korea and China.
The sector will facilitate linkages between businesses and farmers to form large-scale concentrated seafood areas in order to ensure material supplies throughout the year.
The General Department of Fisheries will build long-term plans on trade and investment promotion activities and implementation of cooperative seafood agreements, especially with ASEAN and African countries.
