“As the army of struggles, tasks and productions”, during war, the Vietnam People’s Army strongly and bravely struggled to earn historic victory of the Dien Bien Phu Battle - “globally shocked”, historical Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberate the South of Vietnam, reunify the country; and in peace, Vietnam People’s Army has dedicated to work, deeply contributed to social - economic development of the country. In global integration process, Vietnam People’s Army has continuously developed its tradition, actively engaged in economic operations, pushed up domestic production, cooperated with foreign enterprises to gain high economic benefits for the purpose of contributing in building the economy and improving the tradition of “army of productions”.
As a formal representative of “army of productions”, General Army of Economic and Technology (GAET) becomes a symbol of soldiers in economic field during global integration process.
As a former of Fuel Supplies Department, directly under the General Department of Logistics, established on June 27th 1962, the General Army of Economic and Technology (GAET) can look back on 50 years of development. Presently, GAET is a defence - security company managed by the General Department of Military Industry. In 2009, GAET was permitted to transform its model to the parent company - subsidiary company. By August 23rd 2011, based on the reorganisation of Defence Industry Material one member Limited Liability Company, the Minister of Defence decided to set up the General Army of Economic and Technology, which has become a multi - industrial enterprise, not only insuring to provide military supplies, but also participating in some business activities, such as: Exporting and importing products, materials and equipment for defence industry production and economic production; exporting products made by defence industries; producing mechanical products; transporting explosive products and cargo, warehousing; processing wood and designing furniture; manufacturing and producing and trading equipment, mechanical products and installing equipment; training and exporting labour force; producing paper and paper products; producing and trading building materials; retailing and wholesaling petroleum, fuels, coal, gas; importing and trading health equipment; furthermore, company has also taken part in some real estate activities, included: trading, constructing, consulting, mediating and bidding real estates. By its specific character, the State and Ministry of Defense have commissioned GAET to become one of the two units exclusively importing and supplying explosive industry products for constructing industries, mining industry, transportation, cement industry to serve the domestic economy. Apart from its functions in multiple industries, GAET always recognises that defence and security commissions are its main and comprehensive duties in all activities.
Along with being soldiers successfully completing their defence and security duties, members of General Army of Economic and Technology are united and skilled on the market place. The union strength has helped GAET pass through many difficulties and gain more success in every business sector.
In recent years, although domestic and global economic turmoil has directly impacted the businesses growth of many companies, GAET still maintained its growth and development in many businesses sectors, specifically: In 2008, its turnover reached VND 1,672 billion, earnings accounted for VND 26 billion, contributed VND 59 billion to State budget, average employee income reached VND 4.4 million; in 2009, its turnover was VND 1,829 billion, earnings reached VND 43 billion, contributed VND 66 billion to State budget, average income was VND 5.6 million; in 2010, turnover was VND 2,450 billion, earnings reached VND 45 billion, contributed VND 75 billion to State budget, and average income was VND 5.7 million. Consequently, in 2011, its turnover, earning and employee’s average income reached VND 2,450 billion, VND 60 billion and VND 6.2 million, respectively.
To attain this strong development required great contributions, from GAET’s staff members in general and particularly from Colonel, Dr Nguyen Duc Thuan, Board Chairman and General Director. Recently, Mr Nguyen Duc Thuan has worked enthusiastically for the development of GAET. Besides working traditional business sectors, Mr Nguyen Duc Thuan has concentrated to find new directions for development, extending business fields to be flexible along with global integration trends.
Not only appreciating economic efficiency, GAET also cares for its employees, ensuring preferential conditions for staff and employees to study and enhance their skills, always organizing training courses improving their professional knowledge and skills in order to fulfil harder and harder job requirements. In addition, GAET has implemented social policies, improving material and mental life, working conditions and ensuring rights, interests and welfare for every employee. The corporation has rewarded employee’s special business accomplishments in order to encourage and mobilize them to contribute further to its development. Moreover, GAET has paid attention to social activities, supporting charity and gratitude activities, Vietnam mother heroes, supporting the fund of “Creative youth in the Army”, “Supporting disable children and agent orange victims”, “Supporting the poor”... Those are honourable and respectful activities of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” in the economic battle.
Along with stronger and stronger development, GAET has confirmed its position and prestige to domestic and international partners. With recent position and scale, GAET has been classified as a first rate national enterprise. Contributions of army enterprises, particularly of GAET, to economic activities in the defence sector have gradually built up their position and a role in the national economy.
Achievements and business results of GAET in general and of Colonel, General Director Dr Nguyen Duc Thuan in particular have been honoured by the Party, Government, the Army, organizations and institutions such as second class Achievement Medal (2002), third class Labour Medal (2005), first class Order of Fatherland Protection (2007), Vietnam Star Gold Cup Golden Globe (2007), gold cup of typical enterprise leaders and for community development (2008), St. Giong Cup (2009), UNESCO cultural enterprise Cup (2009), Labour hero unit (2010), Typical Party representative in the business (2011), Typical enterprise ASEAN (2011), Famous trademark ASEAN (2011), Benevolent and talented entrepreneur ASEAN (2011) and many other honourable rewards.
In order to continue and promote achievements, GAET has been striving to become a stable and powerful economic corporation with firm development, improving its competitiveness, expanding business market, contributing to tasks of constructing, protecting the nation and integrating into the world economy.
