Eight Provinces Join Biggest Tourism Project
Eight northwestern provinces have inked the largest tourism development project in 2012 to beef up local community-based tourism.
The project was inked yesterday in Lao Cai, paving the way for the establishment of the Northwest Travel Destination Management Board to coordinate inter-regional tourism.
The northwestern provinces include Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Lai Chau and Lao Cai.
The new project will receive funding from the European Union (US $14.3 million) and the Vietnamese Government (US $1.43 million).
The project will help local people make trips to eco-tourism destinations, promote tourism, create tourism products to tap the cultural and natural advantages of the region.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) will work with local authorities to resolve difficulties and boost tourism development, said VNAT Deputy Director Hoàng Thị Điệp.
So far, the eight provinces are facing with the biggest challenge of poor human resources. Most people went into community-based tourism without any training.
