Since its foundation 4 years ago by combining Uong Bi Coal Company, Mao Khe Coal Company and Vang Danh Coal Company, Da Bac Cargo Company has gradually asserted its position as one of the key enterprises in the western coal area of Quang Ninh.
In the beginning, the Company faced many difficulties due to large management area, lack of infrastructure and inefficient facilities. Especially, changes in coal consumption mechanism of the Group influenced the implementation results of coal producing units. The management also clearly identified current advantages and disadvantages to find suitable policies. Under close supervision of the Group and valuable support from units in the western area as well as tireless effort of the whole staff, the Company has added wings for the Group in coal management and consumption in Quang Ninh’s western coal area.
The Company is mainly involved in managing and exploiting transport by train, road, and sea port, manufacturing and trading coal, cargo loading and transporting, building industrial, transportation, civil works, supplying materials, equipments, fixing, assembling, and producing mechanical products, transportation vehicles, and other equipment. For the past time, the Company has always received and consumed coal at the amount exceeding the planned growth rate. In 2007, only after three months of operation, the Company received and consumed over 2 million tonnes of coal. In 2010, the amount of coal in stock was 7.62 million tonnes and the consumed amount was 7.39 tonnes.
To reach the set target, the Company worked out measures emphasizing shipping and consuming coal and cost saving measures. Especially, regarding investment activities, the company has actively implemented projects serving business, focused on investment into infrastructure for units, upgrading roads, re-planning warehouse premise, upgrading Ben Can, Den Cong ports, and expanding the railway project for coal transport. Moreover, the Company has also dredged the port so ships of high tonnage can come to load coal easily when the tide goes down, and improved the coal conveyor to increase productivity. At the same time, taking advantage of help from the government and units in the western area, the company proposed many creative and effective measures for production organization.
In addition to investment, the Company has paid close attention to training activities to improve professionalism for technical worker and management staff, promote creativeness and activeness for employees to gain high productivity. The material and spiritual life of the workers receives much concern. The company emphasizes improving the quality of meals for labourers, coordinated with specialized units to provide regular health examination for staff. Sport and cultural as well as charity activities are also undertaken, with varied forms of fund collection for disaster-affected areas, in which the campaign “Union family” has been boosted and achieved good results for years.
The above results have a great meaning, being the foundation for the staff of Da Bac Cargo Company to beat targets assigned by the Group in 2012 and coming years.
