FedEx Celebrates 10th Anniversary in Vietnam

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of FedEx operations in Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Duy Binh, FedEx Chief Representative in South East Asia spoke to a VIB Forum reporter.

Could you outline some of the operations of FedEx in Vietnam over the past 10 years?

FedEx is the biggest air delivery firm in the world. It started operating in Vietnam in 1994 and its trademark has gradually developed in the country. It has increased its staff to 150 members and expanded its service to almost all provinces and cities of Vietnam. To meet the ever increasing demand of customers and the fast economic development of Vietnam, we will soon operate each flight with six tonnes of air freight.

What is your business experience in Vietnamese market?

Vietnam is regarded as an economy of great potential and fast development in the region. The government’s increasingly open policies have facilitated the operation of foreign businesses including FedEx. Operating in 215 countries, FedEx has a global policy to improve its services and expand its network to meet the increasing demand of the market.

What is the biggest constraint to foreign investors in Ho Chi Minh City?

The investment environment in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular have been enhanced in recent years. However, there remain shortfalls that the government needs overcome to create a stable and more attractive environment for foreign investors, such as the improvement of the investment law, taxation and license formalities. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese government should accelerate the implementation of its commitments to the Vietnam-US bilateral trade agreement, especially in the financial sector. It would help Vietnamese exporters further access the American market, increase foreign investment and facilitate Vietnam’s accession to the WTO.

There is fierce competition amongst express delivery services in Vietnam. What is FedEx’s strategy to deal with the situation?

In the present conditions of economic development and integration, the competition is indeed ever greater. The strategy of FedEx is to understand the demand of customers and satisfy their needs, improving the quality of service, by offering the best and most reliable service. The satisfaction and confidence of the customers are the foundation of our success.
